Hosting a Baby Shower? Need Ideas for Games?
This is the place!
While every baby shower does not have games, they are a great ice-breaker and lots of fun. It is especially good to play games if the guests do not know each other well. Typically, you play 2-4 games at a baby shower, depending on how much time it takes.
The winner of the game is usually given a small gift from the hostess as a prize. If there is a tie, the prize goes to the guest that has not won a game yet or if neither guest has won a game, simply ask the mother-to-be to choose a number between 1 and 50. Whoever is closer wins the prize.
Pre-Addressed Envelope Door Prize Game
As guests arrive they are handed an envelope and asked to write their address on it, then it's put in a basket. One envelope is drawn, and the winning guest receives a prize. Then the envelopes (already addressed) along with the thank you cards were given
to the mother, making it very easy to send.
Footprint & Handprint Advice
Make copies of baby feet and hand prints and cut them out. At the shower ask each guest to write advice on one and a helpful hint on the other. Then put them in a scrap book for the mom-to-be to refer back to as needed.
Don't Say "Baby"!
Every guest gets a diaper pin to wear on his/her clothes. Everyone tries not to say the word "baby" during the party. If you catch someone saying the "B word" then you get to confiscate their pin! At the end of the party, the one with the most pins wins.
Feeding Time!
Place a bunch of cotton balls in a large bowl. Set an empty bowl in front of it. The object of the game is to transfer cotton balls from one to the other while blindfolded. Blindfold the guests, one at a time, and hand them a large wooden spoon from the kitchen.
Give them 30 seconds to scoop up as many cotton balls as possible and place them in the second bowl. This is harder than you think because the balls are almost weightless on the spoon and the blindfolded person has no idea how many cotton balls they've gotten, if any! The balls are counted after each guest. The guest who
transferred the most wins!
Rice Bowl
Fill a large bowl half-way of plain rice. Pour a package of small gold safety-pins in it (be sure to check that they are all closed first). The object of the game is to find and remove as many safety-pins as possible while blindfolded. Blindfold the guests,
one at a time, and give them 30 seconds to find and remove as many safety-pins as possible and place them in the second bowl. This too is harder than it sounds as the pins feel just like rice! The pins are counted after each guest. Be sure to put the pins back in the bowl after they have been counted so each guest has an
equal chance. The guest who removed the most wins!
Name that Baby Song
Give everyone a sheet of paper and pencil. Give them 3 minutes to name as many songs as you can that have the word BABY in the title!
Nursery Rhyme Pictionary
You need a chalkboard, a big dry erase board, or a big pad of paper mounted in a way that everyone can see it for this game. Divide the room into two teams -- split the room down the middle, or do the men vs. the women for a co-ed shower, etc. Ahead of time you
will need to make a stack of cards (cut them out of paper) with a nursery rhyme or song title written on each one. Each team picks a person from their team to "draw" what is written on the card while their team tries to guess it. They cannot use letters, numbers or say anything outloud while drawing -- only pictures! Each team
has 3 minutes to try to get their team to guess as many cards as they can. You can do several rounds of this depending on how many nursery rhyme titles you have. The team to guess the most wins. This is a lot of fun! Give the winning team members a prize -- I found some cute pencils with baby feet printed on them to use as prizes
for this game at a party supply store.
Here are some ideas for the nursery rhymes: Old King Cole, London Bridges, Hot Cross Buns, Hey Diddle Diddle, Mary Mary Quite Contrary, Little Miss Muffet, Little Jack Horner, Itsy Bitsy Spider, Baa Baa Black Sheep, Pat-a-Cake, Little Bo Peep, Little Boy Blue, Three Blind Mice, Humpty Dumpty, Jack and Jill, Rock-a-bye Baby,
Peter Peter Pumpkin Eater, What are Little Boys Made Of?, Old Woman Who Lived in a Shoe, Hickory Dickory Dock, Jack Be Nimble, etc.
Guess Who! Baby Pictures Guessing Game
All party guests bring a baby picture of herself. The hostess collects the photos as the guests arrive so they don't show them to other party-goers. She then displays them with a number by each one. Everyone then tries to guess who each baby is by writing the
names down on a piece of paper by the number. Be sure to have name tags for your guests if they don't all know each other. This one requires a little advance planning since you will have to tell your guests in the shower invitation to bring a baby photo of themselves. Don't forget to return the photos as the guests leave!
The Dirty Diaper
Fold white napkins or small squares of white cloth or felt into little diapers and close with small diaper pin. Inside one of the "diapers" place a little bit of chocolate such as a Hershey's kiss and melt it in the microwave ahead of time. Hand one out to
each person. Everyone then opens their diaper and the one with the poopy diaper wins a prize!
Hide the Baby
Hide one mini plastic baby inside the party cake. The guest who gets the cake that has the baby in it wins a prize. Be sure to tell all your guests before they start eating that they may find a baby hidden inside (so no one accidentally eats it!)
Guess How Many
Fill a baby bottle with jelly beans, or peppermints or some other small candy or item. Pass it around and have everyone write down their guesses on a sheet of paper. You could set this up on a table for guests to make their guesses as they arrive by writing
their name and guess on the sheet. The one who guesses the closest to the correct number wins a prize. They can keep the bottle full of candy as their prize or some other prize if you want to give The Mom-to-be the bottle.
Baby Food Taste Test
Purchase 6 different kinds of baby food. On a large paper plate for each guest, draw six circles (a little bigger than a quarter) and under each, label them 16. Then, put a dollop of each different kind of baby food in a circle (in the same order for everyone.)
Ask guests to taste the baby food and then write down what each kind of baby food is. The person with the most correct answers is the winner. This is a great game for laughs!
Memory Game
Purchase 15 or 20 small baby items such as socks, a small stuffed animal, tweezers, can of food, bottle, pacifier, rattle, and shampoo. Arrange the items on a large tray. Allow the guests to look at the tray for 15-20 seconds. Take the tray away and then ask
them to write down as many items as they can remember. The guest with the most items remembered is the winner. Give the baby items to the mother-to-be and award the winner with a different prize.
